The idea to write a story on the internet got me when I was working at the NewtonShop in Switzerland. I mean writing a book was something I always wanted to accomplish, but since the internet is a great place for publishing documents I thought: "why not write chapter by chapter and let the audience take part of the progress". We were doing daily business over the Internet, so surfing the internet was my job! but I could not find something like my AMBERELLA's logbook. I saw hundreds of different homepages from sailors and there was nothing that would meet my idea of a travel story.

Somewhat later I found a the great pages of Out of Bounds, and I had fun reading about their voyage, (which is still going on) but I had my idea already before that time and finally got to know how to do it by my self. Jeff, who is managing this site does a great job keeping it up to date. This is my biggest problem, since I decided to write the pages in German and! in English.

A finished book is the usual thing, but something where the author does as well not know how the story is going to end is quit rare.

Well, the idea was a quick one, but the realisation is a big project for the layman.( for me)

I actually like writing, since I have already written a half a dozen dairies of my previous travelling, but the plan to put them into a serious book was never finished. To put the short notes of a dairy into something that is as well exiting to the reader is something new to me. As well as sailing! Yes and there is the adventure in it. How is it going to end?

I have to admit I do have little idea about boating and have only been sailing for about 3500 sm. This was enough to get a rough idea about what kind of yacht I should look for in order to circumnavigate the world. Nastasja, Nina and me drives more or less our optimism, the urge to fulfil this dream . But I think that's nothing unusual between sailors. Tight budgets, hair raising ideas, and a good sense of insanety connects every sailor in every harbour in the world. It would fill another book to write down all the reason why we choose sailing instead of other means to travel.

In daily life we happen to meet very much sceptics (landlubbers, as I would put it), which will never get tired to tell us all the dangers, the stormy seas, the problems with kids on board, the lost carrier, the lost savings for retirement...its getting worse:-)

Now we started! I am writing a book in the Internet. And I want to dedicate it to all the landlubbers out there. You can follow chapter by chapter the whole trip and you will see, if you have been right. and your ?good advise" has worked. I hope you enjoy the show!

The construction area :

As the book will grow and change chapter by chapter, I will put the logbook of AMBERELLA and its crew Nastasja, Nina and Frank into a travel reportage. The reader can follow the whole trip. I know its pretty hard to read a lot of the screen so I would advise you to print out the parts you want to read. The book will be a construction area, so to speak, as long as we did not make it around the world or you landlubbers are right! We only plan the general direction, which is going west! The rest will change anyway as soon as you think you can plan it.

I am as same as exited as you are. And I hope You enjoy these pages. Don't hesitate to write us your impression . Ahoy!
